The Solent Occupational Safety Association (formally known as the Southampton Occupational Safety Association) is a voluntary association originally formed in January 1960 to promote health and safety at work for the benefit of all who work in local industry.
The Association is affiliated to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) and the British Safety Council. It forms part of a network of similar independent, but linked, groups throughout the UK.
SOSA members are invited to attend meetings, and other groups, including:-
The Hampshire Health, Safety and Environment Group who meet in the Portsmouth area; The Wessex Occupational Safety Association (WOSA) who meet in the Bournemouth area; And the Isle of Wight Occupational Safety Group who normally meet in Newport.
SOSA has formed a close, but informal link with the local office of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and a liaison inspector has been appointed to advise the Association. We also have close links with the local Council Environmental Health Officers and Fire Prevention Officers from the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The Association is self-governing and self-supporting. We are managed by an Executive Committee, elected by the members. The annual subscription is maintained at the lowest practical level whilst providing a range of benefits to our members.
